Title: The Wrong Sensor
JUSTICE-DENIED | SATIRE
Panel 1: THE EVIDENCE
The clerk places Marie’s reported-attack card beside a brass OUTRAGE DETECTOR. Its sensor cable is attached to Judge Miller’s wrist.
Case card:
MARIE REPORTED 5 PANIC ATTACKS
AFTER SEAN'S REPEATED CONTACTS
WITH HER ESTRANGED FATHER
Clerk: Five panic attacks, Your Honor.
Panel 2: THE READING
The detector reads JUDGE: CALM and CONDUCT: NOT OUTRAGEOUS. The cable remains attached only to Judge Miller; the clerk points toward the machine.
Clerk: It's measuring you.
Judge Miller: Then we're fine.
Footer: Imagined dialogue. Sources accompany the cartoon.
Behind the cartoon
An outrage detector is wired to the judge instead of the evidence. The scenes and dialogue are imagined satire.

- Marie’s account — Bullied by the Judicial SystemFirst-person account expressly reports five panic attacks resulting from repeated contacts with her father.
- Marie’s account — Marie’s Breast Cancer JourneyFirst-person account reports five panic attacks over the course of a year due to repeated contacts.
Marie reports five panic attacks after Sean repeatedly contacted her estranged father. Judge Miller dismissed her intentional-infliction-of-emotional-distress claim at summary judgment, holding that the alleged conduct, even viewed in the plaintiffs' favor, did not satisfy the extreme-and-outrageous requirement. The five-attack count comes from Marie's published account; the order describes three mailings. The scenes and dialogue are imagined satire. The invented statements about the judge's own experience are not quotations or stated reasons from the order.
