Where Do I Report Judicial Misconduct?

Complaints about the conduct of Minnesota state judges and judicial officers are handled by the Minnesota Board on Judicial Standards. Complaints must be submitted in writing, either online or by mail.

What the Board can—and cannot—review

The Board reviews judicial conduct for compliance with the Minnesota Code of Judicial Conduct. It does not serve as an appellate court, cannot direct a judge to take legal action, and generally cannot change or review a ruling for legal error. A person seeking to change the outcome of a case should promptly discuss appellate or other legal options with a lawyer.

Possible additional state oversight

The Office of the Legislative Auditor accepts allegations involving possible misuse of state money or other public resources, as well as certain allegations of noncompliance with state law. Its process is not a general appeal from a Board on Judicial Standards decision.
